After 35ish years of reading books from all walks of life, I am no longer surprised how the same messages of love, joy, tolerance, equality, peace and wisdom continue to recycle themselves. We are still trying to learn from the past to make better todays and even better tomorrows. We want, we need, what all human beings have sought out since the beginning. The common denominator seems to come down to making sure we don't abandon the fight for humanity. Whether the wisdom was etched on cavern walls or inked on scrolls in ancient languages, human beings seem to have the same basic instincts and desires today as they did in the beginning. Poems, essays, even political manifestos, written by some of the greatest literary minds, speak to our hearts and minds as much today as they did yesterday and as they will tomorrow. From William Shakespeare to Walt Whitman and from Plato to Rene Descartes to Harriet Beecher Stowe, hearts seeking true love and a sense of belonging require each one of us to continue working on ourselves.
